Ramadan Day 19 – Hotels around the mosque
Ramadan Day 18 – Ajwa – The special date
“Ajwa dates are grown in Madinah and according to Islamic tradition were a favourite of the Prophet. Indeed they are unique to the city, and many Muslims will go out of their way to buy these. Dates are rich in natural fibres and Ajwa specifically has been pointed out for its effectiveness at tackling many diseases (source:http://stay-healthy-and-energetic.blogspot.com/2011/03/cure-for-heart-attack.html)”
Ramadan Day 17 – Date anyone?
“Whenever Ramadan begins, the first thing we think of is fasting – of course! However, a part of Ramadan, is also the consumption of dates. The Prophet broke his fast, and encouraged others to break their fast with dates and water. It’s a tradition that’s followed throughout the world, across all continents.”
Ramadan Day 16 – People waiting and leaving
“When I took this photograph, my focus was on the old man sitting on the stool waiting for someone (top right). However, afterwards, I noted that I had captured in brief the hustle and bustle of what’s going on. A policeman is leaving, one man is just standing and watching, whilst someone is entering the mosque. This is one of the doors of what is known as the King Fahad Gate. The tiled design on the floor, is a microcosm of what transpires throughout the mosque. What else do you notice in the picture?”
