Away for Umra (gone to Makkah) Tue/Wed, Jeddah – Thu/Fri
Will post blogs for these days on Saturday, 13th Ramadan inshallah (God willing)
“The Green Dome is memorable for most Muslims, because it lies directly above where the Prophet (PBUH) is buried. It is also centuries old. Although the Prophets mosque is a massive structure (photo coming later!) and despite it being updated by successive monarchs in Saudi Arabia, this particular dome and the green topped minaret to the left are instantly recognisable. In fact, there are many imitations of the style in other countries around the world”

“The significance of this door, is that it is very close to where the Prophet is buried. In fact this door acts as the exit for people once they have paid their respects. Literally thousands of Muslims will pass through this door on a daily basis. It’s an opportunity for Muslims to realise that this very important person from history, was in fact very real and present, and His impact was enormous.”

“There are many doors around the mosque. This is the Quba gate. The large doors around the mosque are similar in design i.e. most of the doors have big arches, with striped bricks, supported by white pillars which are covered in gold coloured plates and ornaments. But although one could talk at length about the doors, it’s what these doors lead to, that really uplift the spirit.”

First lets look briefly at the photograph. Now, consider this, someone invites you to eat with them, you meet other people there who are complete strangers to you, in fact they don’t even know each other. In fact, they don’t even know the person who invited them! And yet everyone is sitting and eating & drinking together. The following day another complete stranger invites you to eat, and this time again you meet a bunch of people who’ve never met you, let alone each other, let alone the person who invited them, and yet everyone is sharing food and drink. The words generosity and kindness come to mind. Now, let’s think about the world today. Would you say that something basic is missing?
Feelings of weirdness!
